TAAMN 2018 Youth Awards Winners Announcement

Dear Members and Friends of TAAMN,

We are pleased to announce 2018 Youth Award winners: Ethan Wu in Community Service category; Frederic Shih in Special Talent category, and Kevin Chang in High School Senior category.

Ethan Wu is an 11th grader at Woodbury High School.  He has volunteered at Special Olympics, school talent show, and homeless shelter through National Honor Society. He also volunteered at Twin Cities Chinese Language School as a Teacher’s Aid. While playing his favorite sports ice hockey at his High School team, he served as a volunteer student manager. More than 100 hours of service have been completed throughout the year. He is the son of our members Jung-Sheng Wu & Pei-Wen Fang.

Frederic Shih is a senior at Eagan High School. He is in the varsity Debate Team at his high school on Policy. The team’s accomplishments include winning the 1st place at UMN Debate Tournament, 2nd place at the W.E. Lilo Tournament, and 3rd place at the Tamar Kaplan Tournament. His varsity debate team also earned the MN All State Policy Debate during 2016-2017 and 2017-2018. He is the son of our member Sasha Szutu.

Kevin Chang is a senior at East Ridge High School.  His ACT composite score is placed at 97 percentile at National Distributions in 2017.  He is planning to go to college to continue the education in the field of engineering, to help him make the world a better place. He is the son of our member Jerry Chang.

The awards, including $200 check and a certificate each, will be presented at Lunar New Year Party at St; Paul Student Center, on February 24. before 4 pm. Please make your best effort to receive the award on stage.

2017 TAAMN Youth Award Winners

Dear Friends of TAAMN,

We are pleased to announce 2017 Youth Award winners: Daniel Li in Community Service category; Kevin Chen and Taryn Tao-Hwa Hillerud in Special Talent category.

Daniel Li is a 12th grader at Bloomington Kennedy High School.  He has volunteered with Loaves and Fishes at least once a week for many years and has completed more than 100 hours of service. He is the son of our member Lei Sun.

Kevin Chen is a sophomore at Wayzata High School. Kevin has many talents. His accomplishments include winning the 2nd place in US Chess Federation – National High School Championship, 1st place in US Chess Federation – Amateur North Reserve Section, and Silver Medal in National German Exam Level 1. He is the son of our member Mia Chen.

Taryn Tao-Hwa Hillerud is a talented 7th grader at Black Hawk Middle School.  Her accomplishments include winning recognition in Original Poetry Category at Chippewa Valley Book Festival’s Young Writers Showcase, and Honors Award for piano performance at Luther College’s Dorian Keyboard Festival. She is the daughter of our member Andrea Chung Hillerud.

The awards, including $200 check and a certificate each, will be presented at Lunar New Year Party at St; Paul Student Center, on January 21 Sat. before 4 pm. Please make your best effort to receive the award.
