北美洲台灣人醫師協會 2019 宏都拉斯義診
北美洲台灣人醫師協會國際義診團 ，41位團員在團長許宗邦醫師領導下，再一次，在3月9日到 台灣邦交國宏都拉斯義診，3月17日完成任務安全回美。這又是一次很成功的義診。3月10日宏國總統 Juan Orlando Hernandez 在總統府邀宴全體團員，晚宴時宏國第一夫人 Anna Garcia Hernandez 親自頒發奬狀給每一位團員 感謝團員對宏國人民的傑出義診服務和教學貢獻。3月11日在 Pespire 市，宏國第一夫人和台灣大使邢灜輝一齊到義診現場 參觀每一科 和每一位團員握手致謝 同時接受數千民眾對義診團的歡迎和感謝，義診現場台灣國旗和宏都拉斯國旗到處飄揚。
此團到宏國 Tegucigalpa, Nacaome, Pespire, Campamento 4個城市義診，受到當地省長、市長和長長人龍的歡迎. 義診團 內兒家醫疼痛科10位醫師，在李嘉晉醫師領導下 服務了共5118人次， 隨團有10位宏國一般科醫師加入看診 我們一齊共服務了超過8千多人次看診。牙醫師5 位在邱嘉雄醫師領導下 加上宏國9位牙醫師 共做了515人次的牙齒服務。外科團隊5位醫師在Dr. Clifford Eke 領導下 開了34手術 很多都是超過兩小時以上高難度的手術，成功地救人許多人的性命。婦產科余國賢醫師提供100套子宮避孕環，同時教導宏國醫學生如何放置 ，加惠當地婦女。中醫師團隊3人在黄勇儒中醫師領導下看了數百人次的病人。藥科4位 侯淑玲藥劑師領導 順利地幫助各醫師發藥給病人。在義診同時 宏國手屈一指的國立自治大學醫學院 35位醫學院學生 隨團實習和幫忙翻譯 他們表示這是一生難忘的學習經驗 最後一天醫學院學生和全團醫師 變成好朋友 打成一片。外科醫師團隊到宏國最好最忙的公立醫院 Hospital San Felipe 教學開刀 指導多位外科住院醫師。3月14日 5位在美國醫學院有教職的教授 副教授醫師們在許中人醫師領導下 到宏國自治大學醫學院 教學專題演講， 該院院長，副院長，許多科主任，醫師和學生共二百多人在場聽講 是一次成功的教學演講會。
每一位團員都盡心盡力地努力做義診服務，台灣駐宏國大使邢灜輝和大使館人員全力推動配合，積極地與宏國第一夫人辦公室、衛生部、各城市市長、省長、衛生局局長、San Felipe 醫院及國立自治大學等單位協調，共同完成這次極成功的國際義診。這次義診 造福了逾8000位宏國民眾，深化台宏兩國友好情誼，對台灣邦交有強大的貢獻。全團團員都希望 將來能再參加北美洲醫師學會國際義診團到第三世界台灣的邦交國家 為當地窮貧人民醫療服務。

NATMA HONDURAS 2019 MEDICAL MISSION
North America Taiwanese Medical Association International Medical Team, 41 volunteer members with team organizer Dr. Charles Hsu, arrived in Honduras who are strongly supporting Taiwan diplomatically on March 09, 2019. The team achieved an extremely successful medical mission and returned safely in US on March 17, 2019.
The team visited Tegucigalpa, Nacaome, Pespire, and Campamento four different communities. In 4 cities local governors, local mayors, and thousands of Honduras people welcomed them. In 4 days the medical missions, primary care team including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatric, physical medicine pain specialist. Ten physicians of primary care team under leadership of Dr. Tony Lee serviced 5118 patients visits. In addition, there were 10 Honduras primary care doctors joined medical mission practices in Nacaome, Respire, and Campamento. Total more than 8000 patient visits were achieved amazingly. Dental team, 5 dentists under leadership of DDS Joshua Chiu, finished 515 patient visits with the help from 9 Honduras dentists. Surgical team of 5 providers under leadership of Dr. Clifford Eke performed 34 remarkable operations. They helped many complicated sick patients with breast cancers, chronic cholecystitis, abdominal abscess, and anorectal cancer etc. Few procedures took more than 3 hrs OR time and many lifes have been saved. Gynecologist Dr. Steve Yu donated 100 intrauterine contraceptive devices and taught medical staff how to place it to benefit women who wanted birth control. Acupuncture team of 3 providers under leadership of Dr. Ruby Huang took care of hundreds of patients too. Pharmacy team of 4 members under leadership of pharmacist Shu Ling Hou helped providers dispensed medicine to patients efficiently and smoothly. Every team worked in best effort to take care of poor patients in Honduras.
With much gratitude, Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez Alvarado invited the medical mission team to attend a formal dinner at presidential palace on March 10. At the dinner Honduras First Lady Anna Garcia de Hernandez honored each of our team members a certificate of appreciation issued by President of Honduras. On March 11 in Pespire, Honduras First Lady and Taiwan’s Ambassador Ingrid Hsing visited every medical mission team stations and greeted every member with best sincerity. Thousands of local citizens welcomed the medical mission team in Pespire. The team and members were touched by watching beautiful Honduras folk dance at site decorated by hundreds Taiwan and Honduras flags.
For 4 days Medical mission there were 35 medical students from National Autonomous University of Honduras, the best medical school in Honduras, who did translating and medical internships. Many of them expressed this is unforgettable trip and received much learning in the medical field. The Surgical team went to the biggest and busiest public hospital, San Felipe Hospital, and taught many surgical residents at OR. Specially the academic team included 5 physicians who are professor, associate professor or assistant clinic professors had teaching conference at medical school of National Autonomous University of Honduras. The dean of the medical school, many department chiefs with 200 more students in the audience were very grateful for the quality of teaching topics that were presented by members physicians.
The success of this medical mission is because of every member of the medical mission team’s hard work, doing the best they can do to carry forward their responsibility. We are in debt to Taiwan’s Ambassador Ingrid Hsiung and her staff, their arduous work, excellent coordination with Honduras governmental officers, and fully supporting our medical missions team made this successful task possible. Due to remarkable success of NATMA 2019 Honduras Medical mission, more than 8 thousand Honduras people have benefited as well as a stronger diplomatic friendship between Taiwan and Honduras is achieved. NATMA will keep doing this kind of merciful and meaningful international medical mission journeys in the future.
