An Immigrant’s Experience on Air Force 1, Winston Chen

Preface

Dear reader,

There are many people in my life that I owe parts of this book to. An individual worth mentioning in this preface is Grandmaster Yun Lin, who I am so grateful to have had in my life. Not only had he aided my parents in their early life, many of his messages have been passed on to me.

To those blindly reading my book ~ here’s an introduction. Tm Nicole. Tm a 15 years old American born Taiwanese. Between grasping the concepts of my AP Chemistry course, spending hours sitting in front of the piano, and desperately trying to finish Drivers Ed, I haven’t had much exposure to the world outside my life. Compared to my parents, I have much less to worry about. However, through spending a good amount of time of these last few years with this story, I have come to realize the “bubble” that I live in, the one that gives me a chance to focus on what will ensure my successful future. This society that I live in today, blocks an introduction to the less fortunate side of town maybe 5 miles away or to halfway across the world.

My father started with almost nothing and worked his way up, something that I have not experienced. Using words on a page to experience what life was like for him gave me an eye-opening experience, seeming as if I was really there.

I choose to write this story because I truly believe the opportunities this society has to offer. Without the American system of opportunities, my father would have never dreamed of traveling with the president on the Air Force I.

Ambition takes you far. I have learned that ambition is the key to success. And that, is the main message of the story. This journey inspired me. I hope it inspires you too.

Best,

Nicole
