Kuan Cheng Lu 盧冠呈,Violinist
Violinist Kuan Cheng Lu joined the New York Philharmonic at the start of the 2004–05 season — the first Taiwanese classical musician to earn a seat in the Philharmonic in its 170-year history. Mr. Lu has received numerous awards and scholarships that include the top prize in the Taiwan National Violin Competition, first prize in the ASTA string competition, the Raphael Bronstein Award, and the Taiwan Chi-Mei Corporation’s Outstanding Young Artist award. He received his bachelor’s in music degree from Oberlin College, his master’s in music from the Manhattan School of Music, and his doctor of musical arts from the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY). He is an alumnus of the Music Academy of the West, now a partner in the New York Philharmonic Global Academy, and has studied with former New York Philharmonic Concertmaster Glenn Dicterow, Lisa Kim, Acting Principal, Second Violin Group, and Yoko Takebe. Other teachers have included Roland and Almita Vamos, Daniel Phillips, Julia Bushkova, as well as his father, Chung Chih Lu.
Mr. Lu has served as concertmaster of the Verbier Orchestra, Pacific Music Festival, Music Academy of the West, Oberlin Orchestra, Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble, Manhattan Chamber Sinfonia, Manhattan Symphony, and Manhattan Philharmonia. As a member of the New York Philharmonic Ensembles, he makes regular appearances at Merkin Concert Hall. Mr. Lu teaches at the Manhattan School of Music in the graduate program for orchestra performance.
來自台灣高雄鳳山的小提琴家盧冠呈，在四百多位國際頂尖好手競爭下脫穎而出，入選為美國著名紐約愛樂交響樂團小提琴團員，這是一百五十多年來第一位台灣子弟進入紐約愛樂交響樂團。也是紐愛最年輕團員。
盧冠呈受紐約愛樂交響樂團總監、指揮大師馬捷爾(LorinMazel)賞識，他應試入選紐約愛樂時，馬捷爾是主考官之一，特別欣賞他的琴藝，親自鼓勵。盧冠呈目前是紐約愛樂交團一百多位團員中最年輕的一位；他加入後將有十六個月試用期，若通過考驗則取得終生職。
盧冠呈說，他生於高雄鳳山，六歲開始學拉小提琴，在鳳山國小教音樂的父親盧聰智是他的音樂啟蒙老師。冠呈從小展現小提琴天賦，在國小、國中、台中二中都唸音樂班，於一九九七年高二時隻身赴美，先後就讀奧柏林音樂學院大學部、曼哈坦音樂學院碩士班，都因成績優異獲全額獎學金。取得曼哈坦音樂學院碩士。
盧冠呈在台曾獲全國小提琴大賽首獎、奇美集團傑出青年藝術家獎等，他拜師紐約愛樂交響樂團小提琴首席Glenn Dicterow、小提琴家Yoko Takebe、Lisa Kim等人；曾擔任曼哈坦交響樂團、曼哈坦室內交響樂團、奧柏林交響樂團小提琴首席。
在家人鼓勵下，他成為美國奧柏林音樂學院（Oberlin Conservatory of Music）高材生、並成為樂團首席。惜才的奇美公司前董事長許文龍，還把自己珍藏的小提琴借他演奏。 他在音樂上的表現，獲得奇美文教基金會認同而頒給獎學金。
