Born in Ghee-Lan, Taiwan in 1945, Christina Hsu graduated from Taiwan Provincial Taichung Teachers College (today’s National Taichung University of  Education) with a degree from the Department of Fine Arts. While in school, she studied drawing, color science, watercolor, and oil painting with professors Shu-Mei Chang, Chi-Chu Lin, Shang-Shi Cheng, Fuo-Ting Lu, and Fu-Ming Song. After retirement, Christina continued her art studies in New York with Mr. Stone Chi-Ying Hsieh and Professor Jason Chang. While she works in various genres including portrait, still life and landscape, portrait in oil remains her favorite.

While Christina delved herself deeply into the studies of art, she also acquired the ability to work independently. Years of tireless work on composition, color and lines have won her recognitions in local art communities. Christina has been invited to participate in numerous exhibits sponsored by organizations such as North America Taiwanese Women’s Association, Culture Center of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, The Gallery of Amerasia Bank as well as Bethany’s Studio of Arts. Last year, her oil work “Stretching Out to the Sky” won the second prize from The New Rochelle Art Association Winner list from the 2014-2015 Adolph Grant Award Show ( see link: Spring 2015).  In March 2015, Her painting “The Hsu Family Ensemble” was selected to be featured in the New Rochelle Art Association’s online gallery (see http://www.nraaonline.org/#gallery-iii/cjip ).    Christina considers herself fortunate in winning such an award and gives thanks to God for her various talents. Now she is active in New York’s art community and is a member of various prestigious organizations including The New Rochelle Art Association (NRAA), Audubon Artists, Inc., and North America Taiwanese Women’s Association (NATWA).

Christina’s solo exhibit “Capturing Memories” was held at the Amerasia Bank Gallery in New York during April 25th – May 5th, 2015. Painting is Christina’s way of telling the stories of people and things around her, and of sharing the joy and love in her family life. This exhibit showcases her multi-faceted approach to art, whether it be the theme, medium, technique or style. Viewers were delighted by Christina’s paintings and the expressive descriptions accompanying each work; some were even moved to tears by the life stories told through her paintings.
