ROSIE VISITS TAIWAN

Dear Friends:

During the period of 1950 thru 1980, over fifty thousand Taiwanese Students, who had recently graduated from colleges in Taiwan, came to many academic institutions in North America to pursue advanced degrees and post-graduate training. After receiving their advanced and professional degrees, most of the Taiwanese students chose to remain in North America to avoid the then authoritarian rule in Taiwan, settling down around the major cities such as New York to seek the “American dream”. In 1987, a group of Taiwanese Americans, yearning for a place to remember their homeland, founded Taiwan Center in Flushing, New York.

Over the years, Taiwan Center has grown into a Community Center and a bridge between Taiwan and the United States for cultural and educational exchange. The publication of a children’s book by Taiwan Center to introduce Taiwan to the young readers has always been one of our missions. “Rosie Visits Taiwan” written by Jacy Chen, Ph.D. is our first publication. Dr. Chen creates our heroine Rosie, a 2nd generation Taiwanese-American who visits her parents’ birth place, introducing the tiny island nation called Taiwan to our young readers. I believe that you will enjoy the story and discover the unique culture and history that is Taiwan.
