Proverbs And Humor of The East And West
Author:C.W. YangIn 1965, the author was on Okinawa, The Ryukyu Islands, which was administered by the .S. The Vietnam War was going full swing. American super bombers took off from the Air Force Base every day regardless of anti-U.S. Base demonstrations. Military equipment piled up on all military bases like mountains. The author thought; “Why should they need so many weapons to fight against small North Vietnam who has such poor weapons? They must be preparing for WWIII against the communist countries that are behind North Vietnam. He muttered; “There is no permanent international enemy” and thought of the proverb; “He who is fond of wars should be punished heavily”. He told a Japanese friend; “I must familiarize the people of the world with these proverbs to promote peace for the world”. The friend said; “You are full of hot air”. The author replied; “Yes, my heart is hot; that is why I can blow hot air from my trumpet”.
The author tries to keep readers from falling asleep while reading his articles. He polishes the proverbs to make them more interesting. If he has over massaged in some places to make them derailed, please forgive him.
The author received direction and earnest help from Mrs. Sandy Davis, Professor C. C. Chen, Mr. Y. Kakinohana, Ms Jane Huang, Ms S. M. Wang, and my granddaughter, Holly Yang. Mr. Jerome Strauss designed the cover sheet. Thank you very, very much.
