Audrey Lo, Violin
Born in Tainan City, Taiwan, Ms. Lo grew up studying both piano and violin. At the age of 10, Ms. Lo discovered the wonderful sensation of playing in an orchestra, thus, inspired her to continue her journey as a violinist. She won her first competition at the age of 11 at her hometown Tainan, and was a semi-finalist at the National competition. In the spring of 1991, the Lo family immigrated to New York City, USA to pursue their American dream; Where Ms. Lo enrolled at the Pre-College Division of the Manhattan School of Music and continued her study of violin. A year later, her study also led her to the acceptance of the prestigious Fiorella H. LaGuardia High School for Music & Art and Performing Arts. In the spring of 1994, Ms. Lo won her first competition to solo with Manhattan pre-college orchestra performing Wieniawski Violin Concerto No. 2. From then, she continued to awe people with her sound and passion for music. Studying both at LaGuardia, and Manhattan School, Ms. Lo has developed love of playing for orchestra. She described the sounds coming out of an orchestra as a rainbow after the rain. In her junior year at high school, Ms. Lo decided to join InterSchool Orchestra of New York. The same year, she was made the concertmaster of the orchestra at LaGuardia. In her senior year at high school, Ms. Lo was concertmaster to Manhattan School Pre Orchestra and LaGuardia High School Orchestra and Assistant Concertmaster to InterSchool Orchestra of New York Symphony Orchestra. She also won competition at all 3 venues she entered. She made her solo debut with the InterSchool Orchestra of New York at the Alice Tully performing Saint-Saen’s Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso. Upon graduation, Ms. Lo enrolled at Brooklyn College and learnt from the famous master, Mr. Perlman. It was at her first year of study; she won the Mozart competition and performed with orchestra. In the spring of 2004 she performed the Sibelius Concerto with the Purchase Orchestra. Ms. Lo have performed with many great musicians such as, Daniel Phillips, Philippe Herreweghe, Thomas Ades, Leon Botstein, Eugene Drucker, James DePreist, James Conlon, JoAnn Jalletta, Jorja Fleezanis, Andre Emelianoff, Paul Cantor, etc. She has attended Festivals such as, Musicorda, Bowdoin, Garth Newel, Aspen, RoundTop, Spoleto USA, and Netherland Youth Orchestra, in which she was concertmaster. Ms. Lo’s teachers include Todd Phillips, James Buswell, Daniel Phillips, Masao Kawasaki, Lucie Robert, and GuoSi Young. She received her Bachelor of Music from SUNY Purchase and an M.M. from Mannes College. She freelances, and teaches in the New York area, and actively performs with the Albany Symphony, Orchestra of the Bronx, The Bronx Opera, Verismo Opera, Chelsea Symphony, and Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble.
