思理的詩路

四月在美國是詩歌月，位於密西根州里沃尼亞（Livonia)市的斯庫克拉夫特學院（Schoolcraft College），特於四月十日上午在花園市（Garden City)的分校舉辦慶祝活動，由英文系兩位教授擔綱與兩個部門共同籌劃“我的詩路”（My Path To Poetry),邀請在該校圖書館任職的思理出席，接受訪談並且朗誦三首她寫的詩。
首先由負責訪問的緒曄特（Faye Schuett)教授簡單介紹思理：在臺灣生長受教育
，目前已發表五百五十多篇散文、短篇小說、極短篇小說、詩，1993年出版《思理極短篇》，詩作曾收編2008、2009、2011臺灣年度詩選。1998年開始英文詩寫作後，陸續在全國性和地方性詩刊上發表詩作，2005年出版第一本英文詩集《One Tenth of a Rainbow by the Setting Sun》，2009年出版第二本英文詩集《They Return》，第三本英文詩集《Duck Prints in the April Snow》即將出版。
訪談內容如下：
一．
問：
如何開始寫詩？
答：
在寫作早期，深深欽羨詩人能表達文字的美，便決定自己也要嘗試這款的寫作。只是，當時並沒認真寫詩，因為那時更熱衷於散文和小說的寫作。此後的二十五年當中，除了寫散文和小說，並且開始寫極短篇。可是，寫詩這個念頭，一直都縈繞在腦海裏，自己也知道有一天一定會再回去寫詩。
一九九八年三月十五日傍晚，跟兩個女兒一起看X-File電視影集時，忽然有了一個念頭：我何不寫首“家庭主婦的晨間檔案”的詩呢？次日，三月十六日，我寫了四分之一世紀後的第一首詩，也是第一首英文詩。此後我便一直寫英文詩跟中文詩。
這聽起來好像很偶然也有點可笑，可是，我覺得那時候我已經在找一個可以跟極短篇告別的最好的方式。從一九九〇年開始寫的極短篇，到一九九八年的時候，我已經到了一個瓶頸點，再也無法寫出更好的極短篇，這時候，寫詩便成了一個最好的出路。
這就好像爬山多時，忽然發現一座隱秘的山谷。這座山谷自己曾駐足過卻未曾停留。現在，我決定停歇下來，好好地欣賞只有這座山谷可能給予的美和寧靜。

問：
何時在公開場合朗讀自己的詩？
答：
我在二〇〇〇年三月十四日開始在公開場合朗讀自己的英文詩。那天傍晚，我參加在Barnes & Noble書店（斯庫克拉夫特學院校本部對面）舉行的詩歌朗誦會。那天的主題詩人就是您！您精彩的朗誦之後就是“自由朗讀時間”（Open Mic），我雖然登記了要讀自己的作品，但卻臨時怯場，鄰座一位女士問我：“你不是登記了要朗讀嗎？”經她這麼一推促，我鼓起勇氣站起來走到講臺前面對觀眾，讀了兩首我初期的詩。那時離我開始寫第一首英文詩才將滿兩年，實在有夠大膽，很有出生之犢不怕虎的氣魄。也就是在這次的公開朗讀，我認識了幾位“你的詩社”(Your Poetry Group)的詩友，從那時起便開始定期在每個月的第二個星期天下午，在普利茅斯(Plymouth)圖書館唸詩。

問：
用何種語言說，用何種書寫？用第二國語言寫詩的感想如何？
答：
我說臺語、中文、英語，也用這三種寫作。剛開始寫英文詩的時候，電腦旁擺滿了字典；中英字典、英漢字典、英文字典，每天都忙著在字典裏尋找那最恰當的字詞。最近比較常用谷歌的“譯者”。寫了十四年英文詩，我仍然常常找不到那最恰當的字。
寫英文詩以來，常常將完成的詩改寫成中文詩，然後再從中文詩改回去英文詩，這種過程往往使英文詩更完美。我想這是用兩種語言寫詩的最大好處。

問：
你持續寫作是否有一定的程序？是否每天寫作？
答：
我想我一直不時在尋找寫作的題材，所以盡可能在腦子裏的檔案匣、電腦裏的那個檔案匣，或一些紙片上儲備影像。
我試著每天都撥出時間寫作，大多是早上屋裏很安靜的時候。去年四月，一整個月裏，我每天寫一首英文詩，今年也如此，這可以算是我給我自己定的一項功課。
去年春天，諾貝爾獎評委會委員Kjell Espmark先生來底特律近郊Grosse Pointe參加他的新書發表會。在朗讀Lend Me Your Voice書中的詩以後，回答觀眾的提問時，曾經說他每天寫十五首短詩。我想“每日十五詩”也許應該是我日後努力的目標。
當我面對所謂的“作家的困境”（writer’s block)的時候，我常常將寫詩置之一旁，回去寫散文或者短篇小說，或者乾脆什麼都不寫，給“寫作”放個假，直到再也不能忍受寫作曠職的罪惡感，而且也能重新執筆的時候，便再開始寫作。

問：
你的詩很多樣而且都有很美的韻律感，有一種很細心重複的節拍，你是否喜歡音樂？或者說，你喜愛字和詞發出的聲調？
答：
老實說，我並不知道自己的詩有您所謂的“美麗的韻律感”，就像有人常問我，你這首詩是不是有這個涵義，我常常很驚訝一樣，因為我不知道。我深信音樂長駐在你我的心裏。我聽過的歌，我唱過的歌，旋律節奏都一直跟著我，所以，當我寫詩的時候，我也許就下意識地跟著某一節拍某一節奏遣詞驅字。
剛開始寫英文詩的時候，常常把自己的詩跟自己喜愛的詩人的詩並排在一起，先大聲朗讀詩人的作品，再讀自己的。這一讀，馬上發現自己的詩需要極大的改進，因為實在慘不忍“讀”。現在已經養成一個習慣，每完成一首詩，一定大聲讀出來，一直要到字詞運轉都流暢時才作罷。

問：
最近去世的女詩人Adrienne Rich 有一首詩“Diving into the Wreck”，她希望她的讀者帶“一把刀，一部照相機，一本充滿神秘的書”跟她一起深潛探殘骸。你的詩也邀請讀者去尋幽探實，那麼，你希望他們帶什麼工具跟你一起深潛呢？
答：
這真是個既美麗又刺激的問題，謝謝。我建議我的讀者帶三樣東西：氧氣筒、防水的手電筒、防水的智慧型手機。氧氣筒，以免窒息。手電筒，渾濁中才看得見，我的詩有很多很渾濁。智慧型的手機，可以求救；可以發簡訊或電郵給朋友，報告深潛的進度；可以聽音樂；可以拍照；可以噗到臉書上；並且有一個可以把他們安全帶回家的衛星定位系統。
當日出席的除了花園市分校的院長、主任、教授，還有特地從校本部兼程趕來的校長、副校長、多位院長、主任和教授。喜愛詩歌的學生們也前來參加，其中兩位並且在節目的後半段朗讀她們的作品。
與會人士均稱這是一場很有收獲的詩歌節慶，深具啟發性和教育性。
