Chi-Yin Chen , Violinist

Award-winning violinist Chi-Yin Chen has performed internationally in a wide range of solo and orchestral music. As an orchestral violinist, Ms. Chen first served as concertmaster of the Youth Summer Orchestra of National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra in 2007. Since then, Ms. Chen has performed with Philharmonia Moment Musical in the Young Euro Classic Festival in Berlin, Germany in 2008 and the Taiwan Pro Arte Orchestra at the Music Carnival in Taipei Arena in 2011. Recently, Ms. Chen served as concertmaster for the Baltimore Concerto Orchestra in Baltimore, MD in 2012. She also received a fellowship to attend the 2012 Aspen Music Festival.
Chi-Yin Chen made her solo debut in Vivaldi’s Four Seasons – Winter as the solo violin with the Aikuang Sun Youth Orchestra in her home country of Taiwan in 2008. In 2009, Ms. Chen won the 3rd prize for violin in the Taipei Music Competition. In addition, Ms. Chen was chosen to perform Vivaldi’s Four Seasons – Autumn as the solo violin with the Philharmonia Moment Musical in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the Arts Alive Festival – From the Ends of the World in 2010. In 2011, she performed Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D major, Op.35 with the National Taiwan Normal University New Music Ensemble in Taiwan. In 2012, she performed Carmen Trio with Shu-Ting Yao and Yu-Chia Hsiao at the Taiwan Night 2012 Concert in Maryland, United States. This year at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Ms. Chen will appear in a graduate solo recital, performing Grieg Violin Sonata No.2 in G major, Op. 13, Fauré Berceuse, Op. 16, and Prokofiev Violin Concerto No.2 in G minor, Op. 63.
Ms. Chen is also a devoted chamber musician. She won the 2nd prize for String Quartet (2003) and 5th prize for Piano Quintet (2006) at the National Taiwan Music Competition. Ms. Chen has been coached by renowned cellist Alison Wells and violist Jui-Se Yang, as a member of several string quartet groups. She has performed in master classes for the Orion String Quartet and the Jupiter String Quartet.
Chi-Yin Chen received her Bachelor of Music degree from National Taiwan Normal University in 2011 and her Master of Music degree in the studio of Herbert Greenberg at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 2013.
