Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Wei-Heng Anne Ku has been playing violin since the age of eight. She has received numerous prizes and honors, including First Prize in the Temple University Preparatory Concerto Competition, the American Fine Arts Festival Bach Concerto Competition, and the South Orange Symphony Young Artists Competition. She was also a finalist in the 2007 Philadelphia Orchestra Greenfield Competition. Anne made her solo debut at Merkin Concert Hall in May 2005 with the Washington Youth Chamber Orchestra. She made subsequent appearances playing Walton Violin Concerto with the Temple University Orchestra and Barber Violin Concerto with the South Orange Symphony. In 2011, Anne performed the Barber Violin Concerto with the National Repertory Orchestra under the baton of JoAnn Falletta.
A lover of chamber music, Anne has attended many notable chamber music festivals. In 2010, she was selected as one of nineteen young artists to be part of the Taos School of Music. Anne also participated in the 2012 Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, where she performed the Brahms F-major String Quintet with her group on the Maine Public Broadcasting Network live on the air. Throughout her studies at Juilliard, Anne frequently appeared in Juilliard’s annual ChamberFest and worked with many inspiring chamber music coaches, including Toby Appel, Joseph Kalichstein, Seymour Lipkin, and Nicholas Mann. In the summer of 2014, Anne participated in the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop, where she worked with Peter Salaff and Merry Peckham. An active orchestral musician, Anne served as Assistant Concertmaster in the 2011 National Repertory Orchestra and attended the 2008 New York String Orchestra Seminar. She was a part of the 2009 Aspen Festival Orchestra, where played under such conductors as David Zinman, James DePriest. She attended the Temple University Preparatory Division from 2004-07, where she was a recipient of the Starling Scholarship and served as Associate Principal Second Violin of the Temple Youth Orchestra. An avid teacher, Anne has been teaching a studio of nine students in her hometown of Princeton, New Jersey since 2012.
Throughout her studies, Anne has participated in numerous master classes with such artists as Midori and the Cavani String Quartet. Her past teachers include Catherine Cho, Jason DePue, Nicholas Mann, Robert Mann, and Philip Setzer. She is currently playing on a 1906 Caressa & Francis, on generous loan from the Virtu Foundation.
