Michele Cheng, composer
Michele Cheng is an artistically and commercially trained composer. Michele started to compose and improvise by herself since an early age of 7. It was not until 17 did she formally start to study music theory, under the instruction of Wen-Pin Hope Lee. Growing up in Taiwan, Michele received her BFA in Music Theory and Composition from National Sun Yat-sen University, where she studied with Szu-Hsien Lee.
Michele now works as a composer, songwriter, arranger and sound designer. She has been the Composer in Resident for Yunlin Sharing Chamber Orchestra since 2007, and the Film Composer in Residence for RAG Film Co., Ltd since 2013. As a classical composer, her compositions range from orchestra symphony to solo and chamber music as well as experimental music for theatre. As a film composer, she has scored for animation, film, commercial, and drama and theatre.
Michele has been playing classical piano since 8 years of age, under the instruction of Fu-Chin Huang. As a piano minor student in the university, she studied with Ni-Jung Yang. On the other hand, she used to be an electric-bass player in an amateur pop music band.
