30 Anniversary 2017 Cultural Night

Dear All,
I am not sure if we would be able to present the Taiwanese Culture Night to you without the vision that our hearts hold dear.
Providing a stage for outstanding Taiwanese performing artists has been one of the core values of the Taiwanese United Fund (TUF). However, the decision to bring When the World Met Taiwan: The Koeh Hoai-it Incident, a Taiwanese opera, to the United States was made in such a short period of time that the troupe could not raise sufficient funds in Taiwan. To support the 40-odd performers and to transport stage sets directly to the United States, the TUF had shared some of the financial load.
The committee responsible for planning the Taiwanese Culture Night had held numerous meetings. I felt sorry to see our staff answering calls while taking medicine. With all their hearts our board members raised funding from fellow Taiwanese Americans. We raised more funds than expected in just a few weeks. We can’t thank you enough. Taiwanese expats, we have made the impossible possible!
And also we would like to thank the Ministry of Culture and the assistance of the Taiwan government’s foreign units. Minister Cheng Li-Chiun was going to attend one of the TUF 30th Anniversary series “ Culture Night Dinner Banquet “. Though because of the interim meeting of legislature, Minister Cheng can not be present, but brings her greetings to all friends, wish that we will meet soon!
In closing, I would like to thank everyone on behalf of the TUF. Thank you for your presence. I wish everyone good health and happiness.

親愛的好友：
如果不是心中所堅持的那份理念，真有些擔心能否將此次台灣文化之夜呈獻給大家。
提供舞台給優秀的台灣表演藝術者，原本是台灣人聯合基金會的核心價值之一，但此次”遇見台灣—郭懷一“歌仔戲來美演出，在非常短的時間內就決定成行，匆促間，他們在台灣無法募到足夠的經費，四十多名團員加上直接從台灣運來的舞台佈景，部分的財政壓力落在TUF上。
負責籌劃的“台灣文化之夜”委員會，會議一遍遍的開，邊接電話邊吃藥的情景，看了都有些不忍；用了全部誠心向鄉親募款的理事，短短幾個星期，數額超出我們所期待，我們除了感謝還是感謝，海外的台灣人，我們一起讓不可能變成可 能！
另外，我們也要感謝文化部以及我們台灣駐外單位在必要時提供的協助。原本計劃出席參加TUF30週年“文化之夜”系列之一餐會的鄭麗君部長，雖然因為立法院加開臨時會而不克前來，但仍然帶來她對鄉親的問候，希望我們後會有期！
今日就讓我們一起觀賞台灣歌仔戲班劇團帶來的“遇見台灣_郭懷一“，看看久遠以前，台灣土地上原住民，漢人，荷蘭人間發生的故事。純樸的喜悦，義氣的挺身，愛恨的衝突以及無可迴避的生離死別…這些不同族群中交錯的流轉，裝載著台灣土地上曾經的歡笑與哀愁，讓我們靜靜的用心來體會。
