Taiwanese American Citizens League – Leadership Identity Development (TACL-LID) Camp
LEADERSHIP, IDENTITY AND DEVELOPMENT
LID Camp was founded in 1985 by first generation Taiwanese Americans under TACL (Taiwanese American Citizens League). Their intent was to connect with second generation Taiwanese Americans by instilling a greater sense of Taiwanese identity and culture and improving their lives. Today, LID has transitioned to a full second generation leadership and continue to carry on the mission established nearly 30 years ago. To learn more about TACL, visit their website at www.tacl.org
LEADERSHIP
The first letter of our program is also the mainstay of our camp. Every activity and interaction comes back to leadership and building up these qualities in our campers. Campers are placed into small groups and work as a team through various activities and challenges to encourage them to work together to achieve a common goal.
IDENTITY
What would our camp be without culture? We’re proud to be Taiwanese and we want our campers to be too. Through interactive and educational workshops, we want our campers to leave camp with a renewed appreciation for their heritage and sense of belonging within their community.
SELF DEVELOPMENT
Growing up from middle school to high school and beyond can be challenging. We want to help our campers grow by being the best role models and support systems available. Whether it’s challenging them to take a leap off a 20 feet high ropes, introducing new friends or talking about their future- our goal is to help campers better understand themselves, their peers and the current issues our society face. We hope to inspire and motivate our campers to give to themselves and their community.
WORKSHOPS & ACTIVITIES
Campers will go through small classes called workshops that are based on the three principals (LID). We hope campers will be able to apply the knowledge and skills learned in these workshops throughout their daily lives. Aside from workshops, LID Camp is all about having fun in the outdoors with special activities that are offered in the great outdoors!
