Wei-Shuan Yu 尤韋琁, Cellist

As a doctoral program in-progress student at the College-Conservatory of Music of University of Cincinnati, Wei-Shuan Yu is awarded Graduate Incentive Award. She graduated from UC-CCM in Spring 2014 for master degree in cello performance, and was an awardee of the University Graduate Scholarship. She is an active and outgoing cellist in the Greater Cincinnati Area, where she has served as principal cellist of Clermont Philharmonic Orchestra. Pursuing a strong interest in chamber music, she formed the piano trio “The Schatten Trio” with two other top talented students at CCM, in which the trio won the First Prize in 2014 in the CCM Chamber Music Competition, and a finalist in the 2014 Music Teachers National Association National Chamber Music Competition.

Origin from Taichung, Taiwan, Wei-Shuan began to play cello at the age of nine. She is a prizewinner of several competitions when she studied in National Sun-Yat Sen University for her bachelor degree. She won the First Place in the 2011 Concerto Competition. The next year, she performed Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor with National Sun Yat-Sen University Symphony Orchestra. She is also the principal cellist in the Symphony Orchestra when she was in the college.

Currently she is pursuing her doctoral degree under the guidance of Professor Lee Fiser, former cellist of LaSalle Quartet, and studies orchestra excerpts with Ilya Finkelshteyn, Principal cellist of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

2012年獲得美國辛辛那提大學之辛辛那提音樂院獎學金，2014年取得碩士學位，並考取同校博士班和近全額獎學金(Graduate Incentive Award)，現為該校大提琴演奏博士生，活耀於大辛辛那提地區，積極參與各類型的演出。曾擔任克萊蒙愛樂交響樂團(Clermont Philharmonic Orchestra)大提琴首席，對於室內樂有很大的熱忱，2013年組成鋼琴三重奏「The Schatten Trio」在大辛辛那提各地區演出，不僅獲得2014年辛辛那提音樂院室內樂比賽第一名，更拿到2014全美音樂教師協會(MTMA)室內樂比賽的決賽參賽權。

出生於台中市，台灣，9歲開始學習大提琴。就讀國立中山大學音樂系期間皆擔任管弦樂團大提琴首席，曾多次獲得音樂系術科優秀獎，2011年獲得中山大學協奏曲比賽優勝，於隔年5月在高雄市文化局至德堂與中山大學管弦樂團協奏演出「德佛札克b小調大提琴協奏曲」。

目前於辛辛那提音樂院師事大提琴大師Lynn Harrell的嫡傳弟子、美國著名LaSalle Quartet的大提琴家Lee Fiser，並積極與辛辛那提交響樂團大提琴首席Ilya Finkelshteyn學習樂團片段曲目。
